Glenn Beck is a ‘fucking asshole’ says Cameron
Avatar director savages the Fox News pundit, climate change deniers and the American right
Avatar director James Cameron has launched an astonishing attack on the American right and one of their principal cheerleaders, Glenn Beck. The Oscar-winner let rip in a scathing outburst in which he described Beck as a "fucking asshole" and a "madman", called his ideas "poisonous" and challenged him to a debate on politics and the environment.
Cameron chose the announcement of the home-video release of his 3D blockbuster to go on the offensive against the talk-radio shock jock and Fox News commentator. And he left journalists in no doubt that he stands right behind Avatar's environmental message - denouncing climate change deniers as "boneheads" and declaring that his main aim in life was now "saving the world".
The pair first crossed swords in 2007 when Beck attacked Cameron's documentary The Lost Tomb of Jesus, which questioned the resurrection and claimed that the ancient Tomb of the Ten Ossuaries belonged to Jesus's family. After seeing it Beck said that many people believed Cameron was "officially running for antichrist".
Cameron's reply may have been a long time coming but it was concise and heartfelt when it arrived. "Glenn Beck is a fucking asshole. I've met him," announced the director to the press assembled in Hollywood. "He called me the antichrist, and not about Avatar. He hadn't even seen Avatar yet. I don't know if he has seen it."
Warming to his theme, Cameron continued: "He's dangerous because his ideas are poisonous. I couldn't believe when he was on CNN. I thought, what happened to CNN? Who is this guy? Who is this madman? And then of course he wound up on Fox News, which is where he belongs, I guess."
Cameron then tried to tone down his opening salvo, and at the same time appeared to challenge Beck to a debate: "I think, you know what, he may or may not be an asshole, but he certainly is dangerous, and I'd love to have a dialogue with him."
After savaging Beck, he broadened his attack and rounded on anyone opposed to the liberal and environmental messages that Avatar promotes. "I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads. Anybody that is a global-warming denier at this point in time has got their head so deeply up their ass I'm not sure they could hear me."
He added that people who refused to accept the science of climate change would one day find themselves "answerable".
He dismissed his critics on the right, saying they were "just people ranting away, lost in their little bubbles of reality, steeped in their own hatred, their own fear and hatred".
Avatar is the highest-grossing movie of all time, having made more than $2bn since its release, and Cameron, who also directed Titanic, is now a very rich man. So much so that he seems to have decided to become an environmental crusader.
"Look, at this point I'm less interested in making money for the movie and more interested in saving the world that my children are going to inhabit," he said. "How about that? I mean look, I didn't make this movie with these strong environmental anti-war themes in it to make friends on the right, you know."
The DVD release of the film will take place on April 22, which is also Earth Day. Film-makers Twentieth Century Fox have also promised to plant 1 million trees around the world by the end of the year.
The spat - which looks set to run and run as Beck is not known to take things lying down - could prove interesting for News Corp. The media giant owns both Twentieth Century Fox and the Fox News station. ·

I just heard Glenn Beck say on TV that slavery started as "seemingly innocent ideas."
What??!!
Beck could not be that delusional. Kidnapping people from their lands, buying and selling them like cattle, and then subjecting them to the worst treatment ever experience by a race of people was "seemingly innocent?" Slavery began with the founding fathers of this nation. George Washington, the first president of
the United States, signed into law the "Fugitive Slave Act" which required the return of any escaped slave and made it a crime to assist a slave to escape." Wasn't that the era of small govenment and states rights? That was the era of little regulation and each state could decide for itself if slavery was to be or not. Is this what Glen Beck wants for America?
Beck is entittled to his own opinions, but not his own facts. Beck, you are a stinking, rotten, racist, ignorant bastard!!

Glenn Beck is just reaping the fruits of presenting an appalling, ill informed and badly edited show. If even James Cameron regards you as the scum of the earth, you can't really get much lower.
Have you noticed how all the Liberal, Tolerant & 'Self-Anointed Keepers of Our Consciences' are prone to uncontrollable outbursts of violence! If they're not personally engaged in wringing our necks they advocate that others should avail themselves of the opportunity! From the deluded climate-clowns (Hello -- there's a fucking great ball of fire out there called the SUN!) who blame human activity (and cow-shit) for all our ills --- to the carefully regulated utterances from 'spokespersons' from quasi-official bodies (police, councils & NHS) there is a whole miasma of unintelligible diktat, laden with threat towards those who resist their credo. Has the whole world gone MAD? The USA, Europe & now even the once reliable Antipodeans have succumbed to this virus of political correctness!
And that's the last movie I'll watch by this fool.
