Cops want Dr Murray in handcuffs and chains
Charge against Jacko’s doctor could be delayed by row over manner of his arrest
The plan to charge Michael Jackson's former personal physician Dr Conrad Murray with involuntary manslaughter has hit a snag, according to reports from Los Angeles, because of a row between the police and the DA over how he should be brought in to court.
It has been widely reported this week by media outlets, including The First Post, that Murray is ready to hand himself in, while still professing his innocence.
The problem is that while the LA County District Attorney was happy for this to be conducted in a dignified way - with Murray and his lawyers presenting themselves at court - the LAPD (Los Angeles Police department) want the full package: handcuffs at least, preferably chains, and TV cameras lined up to record the moment they brought in the man they believe killed Jacko.
It was unclear this morning how this will be resolved.
Murray does not deny administering the powerful anaesthetic Propofol to help Jackson sleep at night - he was a hopeless insomniac by all accounts - but he denies that this or any other drug he prescribed could have been responsible for Jackson's death last June.
If Murray is found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in California, he faces a jail sentence of up to four years. More seriously, a finding of guilt could open the door to a hugely expensive civil suit from Jackson's family. ·
