Johnson & Johnson heir’s death revealed on Twitter
Girlfriend posted a series of tweets on discovering Casey Johnson - although she may have died days earlier
Casey Johnson, the 30-year-old heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, has been found dead. Johnson was best known as a Los Angeles socialite who recently made headlines when she became engaged to the US bisexual reality TV star Tila Tequila.
Johnson (above), who was known to have a history of drug abuse, was discovered at her Los Angeles apartment on Monday morning. The gossip website TMZ, which broke the story of her death, claimed Johnson had apparently died a number of days before.
Johnson's death was also announced in a series of bizarre Twitter posts by Tila Tequila, who seemed unsure whether her partner was dead or in a coma. She first claimed Johnson was dead, then stated she was alive but in a coma, before finally tweeting "R.I.P".
The Los Angeles Police Department said that a preliminary investigation indicated Johnson died of natural causes. A final report will be prepared by the Los Angeles County coroner following a toxicology report.
Casey Johnson's sudden death comes a fortnight after that of 32-year-old actress Brittany Murphy. Murphy's death was also described as "natural" although the official cause of her death following cardiac arrest is still to be resolved with a toxicology report.
Johnson, who was openly gay, was friends with fellow socialite Paris Hilton and actress Lindsay Lohan. Last night Lohan's ex-girlfriend DJ Samantha Ronson tweeted that she was "so sick of those 3 letters [R.I.P.] so tired of losing friends to something as senseless as a drug overdose. WAKE UP people."
Johnson was the daughter of New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and the great-great-grand-daughter of Robert Wood Johnson, who co-founded the Johnson & Johnson healthcare empire. In a statement, the Johnson family asked for privacy "during this very difficult time". ·
