Doctor Tennant takes on Master Simm in Who finale
John Simm plays a Hannibal Lecter-style Master as David Tennant plays the Doctor for the last time this Christmas
David Tennant is going out with a bang as the Doctor. In his final outings in Doctor Who this Christmas, before Matt Smith takes over the role, the 10th Doctor will once gain take on his psychotic nemesis, the Master, played by John Simm.
Simm - who is best known for playing Sam Tyler in the television series Life on Mars - last appeared on Dr Who in the 2006 Christmas Day episode when he was shot dead. In The End of Time Christmas special, the Master is re-born on Christmas Eve and takes on the Doctor in a maniacal showdown between the two Timelords.
Publicity photos for Part 1, which is shown on BBC1 on Christmas Day, show Simm bound and gagged in a chair, looking like Anthony Hopkins' cannibal Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. Part 2 will be shown on New Year's Day.
David Tennant has already put his Timelord role behind him. This week he was in America, filming scenes on a golf course for the pilot comedy Rex is Not Your Lawyer which he hopes will be his big break into US television. ·

The reincarnation of the 'Who' series has been a stupendous success for us and the BBC. It's monumentally original scripts and acting, the wit and sometimes even profound underlying messages have entertained us without being pretentious! Tennant and Simm will be missed as classic protagonists in this high quality SciFi!!
