Jaimee Grubbs apologises to Tiger’s wife for affair
Cocktail waitress ‘acted without thinking’ before taking up with the billionaire golfer
Elin Nordegren, the Swedish-born wife of Tiger Woods, has received a public apology from one of the first women to admit to having an affair with her husband. Jaimee Grubbs, a San Diego cocktail waitress, told the showbusiness news programme Extra on Wednesday: "I couldn't describe how remorseful that I am to have hurt her family."
Grubbs, 24, claims to have had an affair with Woods that lasted for more than two-and-a-half years. Asked what she might say to his wife, she responded: "I guess I would be deeply sorry for never considering her during the whole process. And him not bringing her up was just a way for me to pretend that he didn't have one [wife] and for me not to deal with it."
Grubbs said the affair with Woods began when she was 21 and met him in Las Vegas. The last time she was with him was on October 18, six weeks before he crashed his car outside his Florida home and brought his life and reputation crumbling down on top of him.
"I've learned from everything that I did," Grubbs said. "Had I not acted on emotion, I probably would have taken a second to think of how it was going to affect my family and the impact it was going to have not on my life, but on everybody that's been involved in this."
However, she defended her role in risking Tiger's marriage by saying: "If it wasn't me, it was going to be one of the other girls."
Up to 10 women are now believed to have had relationships with the golfer during his five-year marriage, leading PR experts to say that Woods needs to get back to the golf course soon if he is to rescue his career and reputation.
Grubbs's interview came as friends of 39-year-old Nordegren told People magazine that she planned to stay married to Tiger, despite his infidelities.
The couple have a two-year-old daughter and a 10-month-old son. The child of a broken home herself - her politician mother Barbro split from her journalist father Thomas - Nordegren would apparently rather mend her marriage to Tiger than leave him.
"[Elin] is a child of divorce and that's not something she's likely going to want to do to Sam and Charlie," an unnamed friend told People.
