Prince plays Paris: it’s an instant decision
American ‘liked the venue’ after seeing Lagerfeld’s show at the Grand Palais
Who said Lily Allen wasn't a pace-setter? The American rock star Prince has made an impromptu decision to hold two concerts this Sunday at the Grand Palais in Paris. The snap decision follows his attendance at Karl Lagerfield's Chanel catwalk show on Tuesday, which was staged in the famous exhibition hall, complete with farmyard theme and a surprise appearance by Lily Allen, who popped up out of the hay to sing Not Fair.
Prince apparently "liked the venue", said officials at the Grand Palais. He returned on Wednesday with a production team - and the deal was done.
It is not totally clear how fans will organise travel and tickets. All that is certain now is that there will be two concerts in the famous glass-and-iron building sandwiched between the Champs Elysees and the River Seine. One is scheduled to start at 5pm, the second at 10pm.
The space is big enough to hold 6,000 people but the number of tickets available will depend on how Prince's team design the concerts. Ticket prices and booking details are yet to be announced; the telephone number for the venue is 00 33 1 44 13 17 17. But don't blame The First Post if a Frenchman answers: "Quoi?" ·
