Brad and Angelina charter entire train from London

Hollywood A-listers avoid the commuter crush on private train to Scotland

On the day that hard-pressed commuters protested at London's Waterloo station over a whopping eight per cent increase in train fares, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie showed us just how aspirational rail travel can be by boarding their own private train at Euston for a five-hour journey to Glasgow.

The train wasn't totally private, of course. 'Brangelina' and their children shared the 14 carriages with their entourage of approximately 30 people, which naturally included a Brad Pitt body double.

On their arrival in Glasgow, the platform was sealed off as fans tried to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood stars. At this point, Brad's body double walked down the platform towards them as a diversion while the A-list family hopped into some people carriers that had been permitted to drive onto the platform and back up as far as possible to the train doors.

An "insider" told the Daily Mirror that Pitt and Jolie had booked the train as a treat for their six kids, who are fans of the Harry Potter films, in which the stars catch a steam train, the Hogwarts Express, from another London station, King's Cross, to their school.

"They're used to travelling first-class on planes, but the children rarely travel on a train," the insider revealed. "They absolutely loved it, running up and down the carriages excitedly and peering out of the windows at the passing scenery."

Brad Pitt is currently filming a zombie film, World War Z, for which Glasgow city centre will reportedly be transformed into a replica of the US city of Philadelphia.

Although Virgin Trains would not comment on the cost of Brad and Angelina's charter, it is thought the going rate is anywhere between £15,000 and £40,000. With the cost of season tickets steaming ahead of inflation, it doesn't look that unreasonable. ·
