Air New Zealand ad mocks Lindsay Lohan theft

Furry mascot jokes with actress about jewellery theft while she is under house arrest (with video)

Lindsay Lohan has poked fun at her recent conviction for jewellery theft - while under house arrest for the crime. The troubled actress was filmed being interviewed by a strange furry puppet called Rico for an Air New Zealand advert.

Lohan was sentenced to 120 days in prison earlier this year after pleading no contest to the theft of a $2,500 necklace. Jail overcrowding meant that she was allowed to serve her sentence at home wearing an electronic tag. The arrangement seems to have been convenient for Lohan, who was able to appear in the advert in which she is grilled on such topics as New Zealand and Kim Kardashian.

Lohan appears more than willing to play along in the video (above) as the pesky puppet notes that she is "big buddies with the bosoms of Miss Kim Kardashian", and asks if she thought the reality TV star might be willing to enjoy "a roll in the fur with me". Lohan's response is encouraging: "I'm sure you could be friends... she does love fur - maybe not the fangs."

At the end of the recording, Rico presents Lohan with some jewelled gifts, before reassuring her "don't worry, they're all paid for".

Lohan is not alone in taking part in Air New Zealand's latest campaign. David Hasselhoff has also joined Rico for a pool-side chat, while Snoop Dogg has recorded a rap video with the puppet. Nor are these promotional films the first time the airline's marketing has caused a stir: a commercial picturing staff in nothing but body paint got plenty of publicity back in 2009. ·
