He’s Just Not That Into You

In the world of romcom fans, He's Just Not That Into You has to be one of the most hotly-anticipated movies pretty much ever.

Based on the bestselling book by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, it boasts an ensemble cast that includes Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Ben Affleck, Kevin Connolly, Scarlett Johansson and Kris Kristofferson, among many others.

Together they provide a tangle of love-lives that wrap themselves around the city of Baltimore: tales of commitment and infidelity and desire and loneliness and questions of why he never calls when he says he will.

The book was famed for its no-nonsense advice; the dollop of nonindulgent truth that no matter what you might make yourself believe, if a guy isn't in touch, he just doesn't want to see you.

There's one helluva lot of cliches to deal with here: the guys are largely sex-obsessed, the gals a little too pathetic at times; but there's much to enjoy too.

In the same way that Ocean's Eleven (2001) was an enjoyable Hollywood romp that required a suspension of disbelief, so He's Just Not That Into You provides a similar fantasy - but with fewer casinos and more romance. ·
