Lesbian Vampire Killers
Gavin & Stacey duo James Corden and Mathew Horne fail to amuse in this British comedy
Many will find it hard to resist a film called Lesbian Vampire Killers - not least one which stars two cast-members of hit television series Gavin & Stacey. For those of us certainly put off by the title and not a little concerned about the cast, Lesbian Vampire Killers is not the most glittering of prospects.
It's the story of Fletch (James Corden) and Jimmy (Mathew Horne), best chums who are heading off on a cut-price holiday after Jimmy's girlfriend dumps him. Of course, by chance they end up in some curious English town which appears to be steeped in the past and plagued by curses and various dark forces. At first somewhat soothed by the presence of a bunch of foxy backpacking chicks, Fletch and Jimmy soon realise that for all their skimpy outfits and intriguing lesbian clinches, the backpackers are evil vampire-types and all-round ne'er-do-wells.
Perhaps it's simply because they have different writers, but whatever subtlety we might have expected from watching Gavin & Stacey on the small screen is well and truly lost here in a flurry of swearing, bosom jokes and coarseness - which might be just about passable if any of it were funny, but sadly, it ain't. ·
