The FBI has been called in to track down a hacker who is leaking nude photographs of the 22-year-old actress Vanessa Hudgens online. Hudgens, who shot to fame starring in the clean-cut High School Musical films, discussed the incident with FBI agents this week after the photographs were allegedly stolen from her Gmail account.

According to celebrity website TMZ, the photos depicting Hudgens in her birthday suit are from the same collection that first appeared online in 2007. The actress later sued the owners of the website that carried the photos without her "knowledge or consent".

The new exposure comes at a time when Hudgens is promoting her new movie, Sucker Punch. TMZ quotes an unnamed friend of the actress as saying she believes whoever is leaking the photos is doing so because he (or she) "has it out for her".

According to Hudgens’ lawyer, Christopher Wong, his client is "deeply upset and angered" and is determined to bring the guilty party to book.

"It is particularly disturbing that whoever got a hold of these private photos seems to be intent on illegally leaking them out over a long period of time," said Wong. "We are actively working with law enforcement to determine who is responsible and to hold them accountable for their actions."

In an interview last year, Hudgens admitted that the release of the photos so early in her career had caused a lot of pain. "I think it has made me stronger, but it still hurts," she said. "It sucks because they were supposed to be private... [and] if anything, it makes it more embarrassing, because that was a private thing. It's screwed up that someone screwed me over like that."

According to TMZ, the FBI believe that whoever is "screwing over" Hudgens is also responsible for stealing photographs from at least 50 other Hollywood actresses.

The website claims to have obtained a list of celebrities who have had compromising photographs stolen from their computers or blackberries. Among the alleged victims are Scarlett Johansson and Busy Phillips, the 31-year-old actress who stars alongside Courtney Cox in the hit TV series Cougar Town. ·
