Lily Allen has talked publicly for the first about her miscarriage last November. The 25-year-old singer was six months pregnant when she and fiancé Sam Cooper lost the baby and Allen then had to undergo treatment for septicaemia.

It was the second miscarriage that Allen has suffered – the first was in 2008 when she was dating Ed Simons – and the trauma was evident as she broke down in front of the camera.

Speaking to Channel 4 during filming of her new documentary Lily Allen: From Riches To Rags, the London singer confessed: "It was a really long battle – and I think that kind of thing changes a person."

Allen also revealed that she has suffered in the past from the eating disorder bulimia, admitting that she felt under constant pressure to look good. "I used to vomit after meals. It's not something I'm proud of... I thought I looked good and it was great to be able to try on clothes and feel a million dollars. But I wasn't happy, I really wasn't. I would love to be the skinniest miniest person in the world but I can't do that without being unhappy - I like food."

The three-part Channel 4 series, which begins next Tuesday, charts the opening of Allen's vintage clothes store Lucy in Disguise in London's Covent Garden, which the singer has launched with her older sister Sarah. ·
