Baz Luhrmann to shoot The Great Gatsby in 3D
Moulin Rouge director shows typical restraint in his plans for F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel
Australian director Baz Luhrmann has revealed plans to shoot his forthcoming adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby, in 3D when pre-production begins in Sydney next month.
Luhrmann, who is best known for his high-camp takes on Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge!, plans to revisit Fox Studios to create his vision of the jazz-age socialites, shunning New York’s North Shore where Fitzgerald’s original story is set.
Leonardo DiCaprio will portray the lead character Jay Gatsby, with An Education star Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan and Tobey Maguire in the role of the mid-western writer, Nick Carraway.
Cinema fans might well question why Luhrmann plans to give The Great Gatsby the 3D treatment, or indeed how DiCaprio and Mulligan will fare in the parts made famous by Robert Redford and Mia Farrow in the 1974 film by British director Jack Clayton. ·

"shunning New Yorkâ??s North Shore where Fitzgeraldâ??s original story is set." Which has nothing to do with the $40m the Australian Government is paying for the film to be shot in Sydney which has also upset a lot of people in the country.
