He'll be back? Universal could resurrect Terminator
Reboot round-up: Cotillard tipped for Batman role and why Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man is 'amazing'
It looks like the Terminator could be back, just as Arnold Schwarzenegger promised. But it is unlikely the recently stood-down California governor will reprise the role he made famous in the 1900s, even if he is looking for new acting work.
According to the Hollywood website Deadline, Universal Pictures are keen to resurrect the Terminator for a fifth outing and want Fast & the Furious director Justin Lin in charge of the reboot.
The last Terminator reboot - director McG's 2009 film Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington - came to an abrupt end when the owner of the global rights, a US media company called Halycon, went bankrupt. A Californian hedge fund, Pacificor, acquired the rights last year for $29.5 million. Universal just have to prise the rights off Pacificor.
In other 'reboot' news, Oscar winner Marion Cotillard is reportedly in talks to join the cast of the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.
According to Le Figaro, Cotillard, who is expecting a baby in the spring, will choose to do one film this year. That film, the newspaper claims, will be Dark Knight.
If true, Cotillard will be reunited with her Inception director Christopher Nolan, as well as co-stars Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt who are already signed up.
The blogosphere is still a-flutter as to whether Cotillard will play a romantic interest or a rival superhero to Anne Hathaway's Catwoman. The new cast members will join old hands Christian Bale and Michael Caine.
Meanwhile the makers of the new Spider-Man this week unveiled the film's title as well as a photo of new star Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, Never Let Me Go) in his costume.
The Amazing Spider-Man takes its name from the original series of comics featuring the super hero. The film is being shot entirely in 3D and will be released in July 2012. ·
