Is Gervais on Hollywood blacklist after Globes?

Ricky Gervais Golden Globes 2010

Ricky Gervais says everybody took his Golden Globes barbs well - but gossip suggests otherwise

A spokesman for Ricky Gervais has said reports that he had been blacklisted by Hollywood following his risque jokes at the Golden Globe awards on Sunday were "utter rubbish" and dismissed them as "Twitter speculation".

The comedian, who targeted A-listers such as Angelina Jolie and Robert Downey Junior with close-to-the-bone insults, told a reporter from USA Today at the after-show party that "everyone" had taken his jibes well, though he added: "I don't know if they mean it or not."

But an unnamed member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which runs the Golden Globes, quoted by gossip site Pop Eater, suggests that many of the wounded celebrities did not mean it.

"Any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organisation last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain.

"Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure."

Officially, however, the HFPA is a model of diplomacy - as well it might, given that the show attracted an impressive 17 million viewers.

Philip Berk, president of the association, denied as "ridiculous"
suggestions that Gervais was told to tone down his act during a mysterious hour-long absence from the broadcast. But he would not say whether he would invite the British comedian back a third time.

Berk told the Hollywood Reporter he thought the show was "terrific", but agreed that Gervais "definitely crossed the line. And some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that's Ricky."

He said that while he would normally vet the host's script before a Golden Globes award ceremony, Gervais would not allow it.

Gervais tells a similar tale. In an email to the New York Daily News  he also denied being pulled off stage for an hour: "I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap.

"This is because I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for. And who I knew had a good sense of humour."

He is realistic, however, and does not expect to be invited back a third time. He told USA Today that before the 2010 show even ended he had been asked to do the 2011 show. This year there was no such invitation.

"That's ominous isn't it? So I probably won't be here next year." ·

I though it was funny. But then I'm already going to hell.

Idiot! He has SO blown it!

Some people, you given them an inch, and they take a mile!

By any yardstick the performance was outright rude. However it may go down well with his core fans who may be inclined to think he has balls for being so frank.

Gervais blacklisted?
YES PLEASE!!!
WORLDWIDE!!!
Comedian? No, that's a violation of the Trades Description Act!
He's a grossly over-rated idiot!

A masterclass in PR.

Looks like "David Brent"'s next major venue will be "Strictly Come Dancing"...
