Tron’s Olivia Wilde swaps light-cycles for spurs
Actress takes another step towards global stardom with Cowboys & Aliens
Good news for fans of Tron: Legacy and its breakout star Olivia Wilde. She’s set to return to cinemas next year starring alongside Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in the sci-fi meets western mash-up Cowboys & Aliens.
Directed by Jon 'Iron Man' Favreau, the film is set in Arizona in 1873 and features Wilde as Ella, who helps wanted criminal Jake (Daniel Craig) fight against alien invaders. Harrison Ford plays Colonel Dolarhyde, the local landowner.
Wilde is the daughter of Washington-based Irish journalist Andrew Cockburn – and a niece of The First Post’s US columnist Alexander Cockburn. She made her name opposite Hugh Laurie in the hit US series House, which is reckoned to be the most watched television show on the planet with an audience of over 81.8 million worldwide.
While Tron: Legacy has performed reasonably well over its first two weekends at the UK box office, the forthcoming Cowboys & Aliens has two A-list male leads and Steven Spielberg as executive producer and could therefore launch Wilde as a major Hollywood actress when it is released in August.
The trailer (above) has created a buzz among movie bloggers for its dark scenes of alien abduction and, inevitably, for a nude scene. She tweeted: “I’m naked in front of a group of a couple hundred Apache. Pretty amazing, pretty interesting.” ·
