News comes after rumours she is close to Bond actor Daniel Craig

It seems the actress Rachel Weisz is becoming embroiled in the world of espionage. Following unconfirmed rumours that she and her long-term partner, film director Darren Aronofsky, have split up because of her friendship with Bond actor Daniel Craig, it is now reported that the actress has been cast in David Hare's first ever spy thriller.

The playwright and screenwriter will write and direct the film, which is called Page 8. The title refers to the eighth page of a highly secret document, he told the Daily Mail.

Bill Nighy, who first came to prominence in the early 1980s when he starred in Hare's plays A Map of the World and Pravda, will play an MI5 operative. Weisz will portray a "beguiling woman of mystery" who represents a threat to him.

Michael Gambon will play the boss of the Security Service and there will also be parts for the Australian actress Judy Davis and Ralph Fiennes.

Hare lives in Hampstead, close by the London home of David Cornwell - aka spy writer John Le Carre. Hare told the Mail that Le Carre had offered to read the Page 8 script, saying: "I promise to be withering".

Hare won't be taking up his neighbour's offer. "I wouldn't dare give the screenplay to Le Carre," he said. "I'd be absolutely terrified to show him what I've come up with."
