INDIAN gossip columnists are having a field day after one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan, reportedly beat up a filmmaker at a party in Mumbai hosted by another famous Indian actor, Sanjay Dutt, on Sunday night.

The row apparently blew up when SRK, as Shah Rukh is known, arrived at the bash after attending the Filmfare Awards, the Bollywood equivalent of the Oscars. It ended when he and Shirish Kunder, a film director and husband of choreographer Farah Khan, came to blows.

There are different accounts of what actually happened at the party to celebrate the success of Dutt's film Agneepath. According to the website IBN: "An inebriated Kunder was following Khan around and even entered the bathroom with him. An irritated Khan then allegedly pinned him to a sofa and punched and abused him."

However, the Times of India had a different explanation: "Kunder was beaten up by SRK as Kunder had written unflattering things about [his sci-fi film] Ra.One on Twitter. The filmmaker's wife has also confirmed the news clarifying there was no provocation from Shirish's end."

The ToI also reports that there is previous between Kunder and SRK, after the actor fell out with Farah Khan. She later told the paper: "Shah Rukh has always told me that physical abuse is the worst way to sort out a problem, and that it means the person who's hitting has either a personal or professional crisis going on. It saddens me to see him doing the same."

It is not the first time that SRK has been involved in fisticuffs with other Bollywood celebs. In 2008 he brawled with Salman Khan at a birthday party.

SRK, star of the 2010 film My Name Is Khan, one of the most successful Indian movies ever, also made waves when he said that it was a shame that no Pakistani cricketers were playing in the IPL competition. He co-owns the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise. ·
