ZSL Animal Photography Prize 2014 - in pictures

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) has announced the winners of its Animal Photography Prize 2014. In its third year, the prize rewards images "that take your breath away – just like real animals do – and challenge people’s perceptions of wildlife and our relationship with it."

"The winning pictures are quite simply some of the most incredible images we’ve seen yet," said ZSL’s photography exhibition project manager Sarah Barron.

"We deliberately choose categories that will encourage photographers to really delve into the natural world, and the winning images capture this perfectly."

The winning photos will go on display at London Zoo from Friday 16 November, but here is a sneak peek:

The Perfect Moment, overall winner, Simone Sbaraglia

Mr Sbaraglia spent days waiting to capture the perfect shot of the striking chameleon (Furcifer pardalis), snaring its prey with alarming accuracy. "I spent a significant amount of time trying to learn the animal’s behaviour to try and anticipate this moment," he said.

"I hope that when people see it they are amazed by this animal, connect with nature and learn to love and respect it."
