Entire Marc Jacobs collection stolen en route to London

God help the thief if he or she comes to face to face with one of the thwarted fashion editors

THE FASHION world has been robbed, literally, of Marc Jacobs's entire new collection, the daring heist leaving women’s magazine editors scrabbling to find alternatives for planned shoots.

The Daily Telegraph's Phong Luu reports that all 46 looks in the American designer's Spring/Summer 2012 collection were taken at some point yesterday during their transfer from Paris to London. An email was circulated explaining that today's press showing at Marc Jacobs' London store was cancelled because of the "theft".

The pieces were due to be used by various magazines for shoots ahead of the collection's general retail release early next year. Without the clothes, notes Emily Cronin in Elle UK, the brand will suffer from "fewer editorial fashion credits in top publications".

Nothing more is known about the heist, although the Daily Beast is reporting that the goods were stolen from a "train car". Either way, the theft must have involved a huge operation that is unlikely to pay off. The pieces are unique and have not yet gone into distribution, says Luu in the Telegraph, so "he/she sure isn't going to be able to flog them without attracting some unwanted attention".

Never mind the police, writes Luu, any thief should be scared of being faced with a thwarted fashion editor. ·
