James Bond back from Games: full-length Skyfall trailer out
Trailer reveals a blonde Javier Bardem as the latest Bond villain and Ben Whishaw as gadget-meister Q
BOND fans can at last see a full-length trailer for the upcoming Skyfall. It opens with M – played once again by Judi Dench - writing James Bond's obituary. Of course, we all know he can't have died – how could he have escorted the Queen to the Olympics opening ceremony the other day?
A short teaser trailer for Skyfall was released in May but the latest promo is "much much more illuminating", says The Guardian.
Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem is revealed as the latest Bond villain, Raoul Silva. Viewers are shown a blonde Bardem – who won his Academy Award for No Country for Old Men – taunting a shackled Daniel Craig, playing agent 007 for the third time.
As well as Bardem, there are other faces new to the franchise: Ben Whishaw as the new Q, Ralph Fiennes as a government agent and Naomie Harris as field agent Eve. French actress Bérénice Marlohe makes her English language debut as bond girl Sévérine.
On top of Bond's premature "death fall" from the roof of a moving train, there's plenty of high-octane action to give tantalising plot hints: a Tube train smashing through a brick wall and an explosion at MI6's Thames-side headquarters.
Skyfall is directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) and will open in the UK on 26 October.
Reaction to the trailer has been generally positive: Total Film calls it "incredible" while Twitter user Matt Mira writes: "More things happened in the 2 and a half minute trailer for Skyfall than the entire 107 minute movie Quantum of Solace."
