Rooney prostitute revelations take their toll, as Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov overtakes Roman Abramovich

Scandal-hit England footballer Wayne Rooney is feeling the effects of his marital indiscretions after he was valued at £12m less than last year in a 'Rich List' of footballers.

He was estimated to be worth some £37m a year ago by FourFourTwo magazine, but since then, following a dismal World Cup and a very public mauling in the press, his fortune has dropped by a third to £25m. The result means that he is no longer one of the top-five richest footballers in England.

The drop in his finances is in no small part down to sponsors deciding he is no longer viable as a public face of their product. Coca Cola recently dropped him from their Coke Zero campaign, as it "did not feel it was appropriate to use Rooney" in the wake of the allegations about his private life.

David Beckham's finances have also suffered, falling £25m to £100m in a year. But he is still England's richest footballer by quite some distance, with a fortune more than twice the size of  his closest rival Michael Owen, whose wealth increased by £2m to £40m.

In the managerial stakes England boss Fabio Capello, said to be on £6m-a-year, leads the field with £36m in his coffers. Perhaps surprisingly he is followed by Ipswich manager Roy Keane, who is sitting on £28m - most of which was accumulated during his playing days. His old mentor Alex Ferguson is lagging £2m behind him in third place, while Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has just signed a lucrative new contract, is well off the pace with £17m.

There are no surprises at the top of the club owner's rich-list with Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nayan at the front of the pack with £20 billlion. Following him is steel magnate and QPR owner Lakshmi Mittal.

Roman Abramovich, however, is now in fourth thanks to the stratospheric rise in wealth of Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov. The Uzbek has seen his wealth defy the global financial crisis and climb to £8 billion from £1.3 billion a year a go. Abramovich's bank balance on the other hand has dropped by £0.4 billion to £7.4 billion. ·
