Iniesta ‘in talks’ over film of Spain’s World Cup win
The Barcelona midfielder has reportedly been in talks with Hollywood movie mogul Tom Barrack
Could Spain's World Cup triumph be on its way to the silver screen? According to several reports in the Spanish media Spain's Andres Iniesta, the man who scored the winning goal in the 1-0 defeat of Holland is in talks with movie mogul Tom Barrack with a view to immortalising his heroics on celluloid.
Sport newspaper says that Barrack has been captivated by Barcelona midfielder Iniesta, and in particular his celebration following his extra-time winner against the Dutch. Having broken the deadlock, the 26-year-old Iniesta whipped off his shirt and ran to the cameras to show the world his vest on which were written the words "Dani Jarque siempre con nostros" [Dani Jarque always with us]. Jarque, a good friend of Iniesta's, played for Spanish club Espanyol and died of a heart attack last summer at the age of 26.
Barrack and Iniesta have recently been spotted together deep in conversation on the island of Sardinia and Sport says they were discussing a film deal. And the story has gained further credence by being carried on TMZ, the respected American-based entertainment website. They confirm that the pair have met and that Barrack, the majority shareholder of French outfit Paris Saint Germain, is keen to exploit Iniesta's talent and charisma. "The idea is [Iniesta] could be talent for upcoming scripts and movies," TMZ quotes a source close to Barrack as saying.
Barrack, the 228th richest American according to Forbes, made his money from real estate and as well as being the controlling force at PSG he is also in ongoing talks with the Walt Disney Company to buy film studio Miramax for $650 million along with Hollywood actor Rob Lowe. But if Iniesta is to play himself in the movie then he might need to work on his tan; his nickname in the Spanish press is El Caballero Pálido [the Pale Knight], a reference to his white skin that makes even Wayne Rooney look bronzed. ·
