Could Arsene Wenger be about to snap up one of football's hottest properties – and biggest cheats – in the shape of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez. Yes, if respected Italian football website Calcio News 24 is to be believed.

They claim that Arsenal are about to do a sensational bit of business with Dutch outfit Ajax, signing not just the 23-year-old Suarez, but also their goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg and right-back Gregory van der Wiel, both of whom were members of Holland's World Cup squad. According to Calcio News, Arsenal will give Ajax £42m for the trio.

The 22-year-old van der Wiel is a product of the much-vaunted Ajax youth system and is said to have been recommended to Arsenal by Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp, now a coach at Ajax.

Stekelenburg, 27, played in all seven of Holland's World Cup matches en route to losing 1-0 to Spain in the final and has been linked with Arsenal in the past. But it's the possibility of seeing Suarez in an Arsenal shirt that will cause the most consternation among the Gunners faithful, all of whom like to see the game played in the right spirit.

Suarez caused worldwide controversy in Uruguay's World Cup quarter-final clash with Ghana when he palmed away the ball in the last minute of extra-time (above), preventing a certain goal for the Africans. Though he was sent off, Ghana missed the penalty and went on to lose the penalty shootout.

But it was the shameless manner in which Suarez, who scored three goals in the tournament overall, celebrated his act of cheating that shocked the watching world, though perhaps not Arsene Wenger.

In other news, the Sun drops a bombshell with an exclusive report saying Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is in talks with Manchester City about a move to Eastlands. Apparently, the Sky Blues would pay the reigning Premier League champions £20m for the services of the 32-year-old Drogba, not a bad sum for a player in the twilight of his career.

In an interview with Radio Monte Carlo, Drogba's agent, Thierno Seydi, said: "Today he's at Chelsea. Maybe there will be surprises before August 31. I haven't spoken to just anybody. The only contact I've had directly was with City."

Pressed on what might tempt Drogba to swap Chelsea for City, Seydi admitted it had nothing to do with playing alongside the likes of Kolo Toure or Carlos Tevez: "At his age I can no longer hide the financial aspect," said Seydi. "The club that want Didier will have to meet the price."

The Sun adds that Drogba is eyeing a three-year deal with City with Chelsea happy to sell and using the money to prise Fernando Torres from Liverpool.

City's bitter rivals, Manchester United, are believed to be pursuing Fiorentina midfielder Stevan Jovetic with reports in the French and Italian media linking the club to the Montenegro international.

The 20-year-old Jovetic scored twice for Fiorentina in last season's Champions League clashes against Liverpool and eventual runners-up Bayern Munich and has built a reputation in Serie A as one of the most dangerous attacking midfielders in the business.

Apparently United have turned their attention to Jovetic after admitting defeat in their attempt to sign Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan. Fiorentina's sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has made no secret of his desire to keep hold of Jovetic, going so far as to claim a new contract is on the table, but Jovetic is said to be a fan of English football and particularly Manchester United. ·
