Could Zola lead a mass exodus from West Ham?

Gianfranco Zola ‘might resign’, while all but one of West Ham’s players are up for sale

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan said yesterday that his manager, Gianfranco Zola, had indicated "that he might resign at the end of the season."

Zola, brought in by the club's previous owners, has seen his position continuously undermined by the new chairmen, Sullivan and David Gold, who have described him as "weak" on more than one occasion.

The players have remained firmly behind their beleaguered Italian boss and the club is now all but safe from relegation (Hull would need to win both of their remaining two games and improve their goal difference by over 20 goals to overhaul West Ham).

But this may not be enough for Sullivan - who as well as publicly claiming his manager might leave, also said yesterday that all of his West Ham players, bar Scott Parker, are up for sale.

Speaking to the Mirror he said: "Other than Scott Parker, there is not a player we wouldn't sell if it was the right bid," His desire to hold on to Parker is understandable, as he has consistently shown the passion and fight that some of his teammates have lacked. He fired the winning goal in the 3-2 victory over Wigan that effectively sealed the Premiership survival of his team.

Stars such as Carlton Cole, Robert Green and Matthew Upson, however, are heavily in demand and were already linked with moves from the East London club before yesterday's comments.

West Ham may be selling off a number of their prized assets, but they are also looking to bring in new talent. Sky News yesterday reported a £4 million bid for West Bromwich Albion midfielder Graham Dorrans, although it was quickly rejected by the West Midlands club's chairman. ·
