Transfer Talk: Gunners could bid £10m for Hart, but Juventus offer Buffon and Melo for van Persie

There really will be plenty of comings and goings at the Emirates this summer if the tabloids are to be believed. Take the Daily Star, for example, they are convinced that Arsenal are lining up a £10m offer for Manchester City keeper Joe Hart. Rumours have been rife that Arsene Wenger can no longer bear the thought of seeing either Manuel Almunia or Lukasz 'The Fumbler' Fabianski between the sticks next season, and the Star says that the Gunners will sign the 23-year-old Hart from City. Hart has been on loan to Birmingham this season and having kept 12 clean sheets he's tipped to make England's World Cup squad. But despite his form Hart can't dislodge from Shay Given from the Sky Blues' starting line-up, and a move to Arsenal would suit everyone.

But according to the Daily Mirror Arsenal will have no need of Hart once they do a deal with Juventus. The once-great Italian club – knocked out of the Europa League by Fulham – are said to be courting Gunners' frontman Robin van Persie, and they've somehow got it into their heads that in return for the 26-year-old Dutchman, Arsenal will be happy to take midfielder Felipe Melo and ageing shotstopper Gianluigi Buffon. The 32-year-old veteran goalkeeper, winner of 100 caps for Italy, once was a great player, but then so was Sir Bobby Charlton, before Old Father Time took its toll.

The Mirror says that Juventus don't have the cash to buy big these days, so they're hoping they can play swapsies with the likes of van Persie, one of Europe's finest strikers. And even though the 26-year-old Melo has some life left in him, since the Brazilian moved to Turin last summer from Fiorentina he's hardly set the world alight, though Wenger has already been linked with him, and said recently he considered him "a very talented player."

At the Daily Mail the belief is that Wenger's main concern is persuading Ajax right-back Gregory Van der Wiel to sign along the dotted line. The 22-year-old Dutchman – who's won eight caps for his country – is highly regarded throughout Europe – and he's said to be as keen to join Arsenal as Wenger is to sign him.

"Of course it's nice to read that Arsenal are interested. I consider myself a good fit for the Premier League," Van der Wiel said recently, adding: "Robin van Persie has told me many good stories about the Premier League, Arsenal and Mr Wenger. Maybe he can put in a good word for me."

Van Persie appears to have done just that and a deal looks imminent which, according to the Mail, will raise eyebrows back at Juventus. For not only are the Italians interested in Van Persie but if the Mail's sources are correct, they also covet Bacary Sagna. The French defender has been a mainstay of the Gunners' defence this season and his consistency has come to the attention of Juventus.

In other news Manchester City are said to be battling it out with Serie A side Lazio for the signature of Uruguay frontman Jorge Martinez. Italian rag Gazetta dello Sport says that the Catania striker, 26, has been in prolific form this season and is set for the big time. Apparently City boss Roberto Mancini has been an admirer of Martinez for several seasons and is looking to bring him to Eastlands as soon as possible, but Gazetta dello Sport quotes the player's agent as saying he's also been taking calls from Lazio.

Finally, the Express reports that Manchester United will break open their kitty this summer in the hope of luring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford from White Hart Lane. The 20-year-old, comfortable on the left wing or at left-back, has come into his own this season with Spurs and United are reportedly lining up a £20m bid for the Welshman. ·
