Transfer Talk: Three-way tussle for Roma striker brewing as Arsenal eye PSG’s Clement Chantome

Mirko Vucinic is set to be at the centre of a tug of war between the two Manchester clubs, according to a report in today's Sun. The 26-year-old Montenegro frontman, currently playing for Italian club Roma in Serie A, has been a favourite of City boss Roberto Mancini for a while, but the paper says Alex Ferguson also has his eye on the 6ft 1in striker, who has scored 14 goals so far this season. Vucinic comes with a £24m price-tag and a reputation for versatility, being able to operate on the left-wing if required. Arsenal are also said to be fans of  the Montenegro international but if he increases in value it will be City most likely to secure his signature.

One player who might be coming to the Emirates is Paris Saint Germain midfielder Clement Chantome. The Gunners were first linked to the 22-year-old a couple of years ago but in recent weeks the interest has been rekindled after reports that Chantome was unhappy with his lot in Paris. Chantome, capped for France at U21 level, is a central midfielder and reports suggest Arsene Wenger sees him as back-up to Alexandre Song. The young Frenchman has grown increasingly disillusioned at PSG this season, not only because the team is again underachieving in the French First Division but because he's been relegated to the bench since the start of the year. "I want to play more," Chantome is quoted as saying, "even if it is for a team other than PSG."

Spanish paper AS reports that Athletico Madrid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo is being targeted by Spurs, though the London club faces competition for the 20-year-old's signature. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has been monitoring the shotstopper for a while after Asenjo lost his place in the Madrid team to David De Gea.

Asenjo arrived in the Spanish capital last summer after a €6m euro move from Real Valladolid but things haven't gone as well as he'd hoped and now he sees Redknapp as his knight in white armour. But AS claims there's a long way to go before Asenjo arrives in London as back up to Spurs' incumbent keeper Heurelho Gomes.  Italian outift Fiorentina are said to be interested, reports the paper, as are Real Madrid and Barclona, particularly as Asenjo is valued by Athletico Madrid at the same price they paid for him nearly a year ago.

Finally Valencia forward David Villa is reportedly happy to stay with the Spanish club. The 28-year-old has been linked to a number of clubs this season, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, and the latest one to join the list is Juvenuts. But in an interview with Calciomercato, Villa's agent - Jose Luis Tamargo – insisted his player has no intention of moving to Turin or anywhere else. "At this time, David is happy at Valencia and is not planning to move," said Tamargo. ·
