Arsenal target Juventus teen sensation Immobile
Transfer Talk: Wenger sends scouts to check teenager after stunning hat-trick
Arsenal are interested in signing Juventus marvel Ciro Immobile, according to the respected Italian media outlet Leggo. They report that the 19-year-old striker has come to the attention of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who has dispatched his scouts to Italy for a closer inspection.
Immobile, who has been making waves in Italy for several seasons, won his seventh Viareggio youth tournament on Monday night as the Juventus youth team smashed Empoli 4-1 in the final. Immobile chipped in with a stunning hat-trick, taking his tally for the tournament to 10, and was voted the Player of the Competition by a panel of Italian sports writers. Leggo is quick to point out that Arsenal are acting completely above board and "are expected to approach Juventus to make early enquiries".
If Immobile does joins Arsenal, one player who won't be around when he arrives will be Frenchman Gilles Sunu. The Mirror says that the teenage striker, a Gunner since 2007, is "poised to quit when his contract runs out" in the summer. Bordeaux are the favourites to land Sunu with their boss, Laurent Blanc, "keen to snap him up".
Bordeaux, of course, will be looking for a striker in the summer to replace Marouane Chamakh who is expected to join the Gunners, so Sunu's move in the other direction could be seen as an unofficial, out-of-contract swap deal.
Sunu was a youth prodigy, playing for France at all age groups, but he has struggled to impose himself at the Emirates. The Mirror says Wenger has been reluctant to release Sunu on loan before he committed himself to the club in case he was "spotted by a rival English club". But it now appears Bordeaux will "not have to pay anything for him apart from low training compensation costs".
The Sun reports that Chelsea are eager to sign the 20-year-old defender Neven Subotic from Borussia Dortmund, but that the asking price is "mega-money". Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti sees the Serb as the "linchpin of his defence for years to come", but so do various other clubs, including AC Milan and Manchester City. Subotic's agent Stephen Kelly is quoted as saying: "It will take a hell of a lot of money to get Neven. He's happy with his new four-year contract. It's a bloody good one, too."
Meanwhile the Daily Mail says Chelsea have also got their hands full in their bid to bring another Serbian – winger Milos Krasic – to Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old has been the star turn for CSKA Moscow this season, impressing Alex Ferguson when the Russian outfit played Manchester United in the Champions League before Christmas, and he's reported to have already turned down one overture from Manchester City.
According to the Mail, German club Bayern Munich have joined the race for Krasic, who is set to leave CSKA after the summer World Cup in which he is expected to stand out. Bayern see Krasic as a replacement for French midfielder Franck Ribery, rumoured to be going to Barcelona (but who isn't these days). But the Serb's advisors are advising him "to seriously consider a switch" to the Premier League and Chelsea. ·
