Transfer Talk: Spanish striker ‘likes the Premier League’; United to pay Rooney £150,000 a week

Valencia stiker David Villa has breathed some much needed life into the transfer-window rumour mill by dropping hints that he would like to move to the Premier League - sparking speculation that he could be set to link up with Spanish international team mate and good friend Fernando Torres at Liverpool.

The £50m-rated striker has also been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea and told the Spanish newspaper AS that he could move to England at the end of the season.

"In the summer I had my own reasons for staying in Spain. Basically, my wife had to give birth first," he revealed. "But this time it will be different and I'll analyse it again.

"I like the Premier League a lot. There are a lot of very important teams in England, who play very good football. It’s the league I follow the most, along with La Liga – and I've got a lot of friends playing there."

Wayne Rooney's cracking quartet of goals for Manchester United in their 4-0 thrashing of Hull City on Saturday looks set to please his bank manager as much as Alex Ferguson. According to the Daily Mirror, Rooney's reward is a new contract that will make the 24-year-old United's highest-paid player. The £150,000-a-week deal will "fend off interest from Spain", most notably Barcelona, whose officials have been sniffing around Old Trafford of late.

The paper says that Rooney will be offered the new five-year deal in the near future, even though he still has over two years to run on his existing contract. It will send a message to the fans from United's owners, the Glazers, that despite debts of over £700 million the club has no intention of selling their prize asset to keep the creditors at bay.

Arsenal may be about to sign Crystal Palace's exciting teenager, Victor Moses. The Telegraph says that the 19-year-old, who has come to prominence as a left winger, has been a target of Manchester City but that Moses "would prefer a move to the Emirates".

Born in Nigeria, Moses moved to England aged 11 after his parents were "murdered in racial violence" and quickly became a favourite at Palace's youth academy. The papers says that Manchester City offered Palace a £2million deal last week but it was rejected. Now Arsenal look likely to step in and add Moses to their galaxy of young stars.

There's more bad news for City, who are set to part company with Robinho, their £32.5million signing who has not proved good value for money. According to the Guardian, the Brazilian's representatives are looking to thrash out a deal that will end Robinho's miserable spell in Manchester and take him back home to Santos.

"The whole board of directors [at City] has decided that the best thing is to loan me out," Robinho said. "It would be extraordinary to come back to Santos. Playing for Santos would help pave my way to the World Cup. It's my home, where I know everyone."

Robinho has failed to take to English football, or the weather, since arriving at Eastlands in the summer of 2008 and former manager Mark Hughes relegated him to the subs' bench.  The arrival of Roberto Mancini hasn't changed Robinho's status within the club and he now feels it's time to move on.

"The first thing to say is that it is a bad moment I am going through," Robinho explained in an interview with a Brazilian radio station. "The managers are different here. They decide a system and want you to fit in and it doesn't matter if you're tall or short. The manager was honest with me. He told me I was just going to play every other game. I told him that wouldn't interest me because this is a World Cup year and I need to play."

The Guardian says that Robinho is so desperate to get out of Manchester he'll happily forgo part of his £160,000-a-week salary. "The financial situation is important but being happy also counts," he said.

Santos president Luis Alvaro De Oliveira Ribeiro has declared his wish to bring Robinho back to Brazil and the club intends to offer City first refusal on their two most promising players, Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso. "We hope Santos can persuade Manchester to do a deal," said Evandro Souza, one of Robinho's management team. "Myself and Robinho's father are in Manchester to try to arrange the deal and we expect we could be here until the end of the transfer window."

However City could be replacing their Brazilian with another Argentinian. Spanish newspaper Marca says City have made a €15m bid for Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago. The 23-year-old has spent much of the season kicking his heels on the bench and wants to get some first team football before the World Cup.

He would become the third Argentinian at Eastlands, joining countrymen Pablo Zabaleta and Carlos Tevez.

In other news, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp reportedly flew to Italy on Sunday to check out Palermo defender Simon Kjaer. The Mirror says that Redknapp is pondering "an £11m move" for the great Dane, who helped his side to a comfortably 3-0 victory against visiting Fiorentina.

With Manchester United and Chelsea also said to be monitoring Kjaer, Redknapp wanted to show his personal interest as he searches for a replacement for the injured Jonathon Woodgate and Ledley King. The Mirror says Redknapp is reluctant to meet Kjaer's wage demands of £100,000-a-week but will try and "negotiate after being impressed with the stopper".

Kjaer joined Palermo in the summer of 2008 and has been a regular for Denmark since making his international debut at the start of 2009. ·
