Arsenal and Man U both like Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
Transfer Talk: Dutch player unhappy at San Siro; Chelsea close to signing Karim Benzema
AC Milan could be on the brink of losing two of their star names according to reports in the British media. The Sun reports that Manchester United and Arsenal are tracking the movements of unsettled Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. "I'm thinking about leaving," said the 26-year-old Huntelaar this week.
The Dutchman is unhappy at the bit-part role he has played at the San Siro since arriving from Real Madrid in the summer. "I want more," he said. ""It's important for me because, as our national team coach explained to me, to go with the national team it's important to play a lot for your club."
Huntelaar is desperate to get regular game time in order to make Holland's World Cup squad and the Sun says both Manchester United and Arsenal would be happy to give him just that should he decide to leave AC Milan.
Meanwhile Sky Sports reports that former Arsenal midfield maestro Mathieu Flamini is set to move to Manchester City in a loan deal until the end of the season. City boss Roberto Mancini, who recently brought another Arsenal star back to England – Patrick Vieira from Inter Milan – sees the 25-year-old Flamini as able to play in midfield or at right-back, where he's played in his few appearances this season.
It's this lack of regular starts under Milan boss Leonardo that is frustrating Flamini and prompted him to look towards England, where he enjoyed four memorable years with Arsenal between 2004 and 2008. But according to AC Milan sporting director Areido Braida, the Italian club are determined to hang on to the Frenchman. "We have heard rumours regarding possible interest from Manchester City for Flamini," he said, "but Flamini is an AC Milan player."
Sky also reports that Milan Jovanovic might be about to become a Liverpool player. The Standard Liege star, comfortable on the left wing or up front, is out of contract in the summer and "intends to take up the option of a Bosman transfer".
Though AC Milan, Valencia and Atletico Madrid have all expressed an interst in Jovanovic, the Serbian is said to be eager to play in England - and Liverpool have met with his agents to discuss terms. The 28-year-old joined Liege from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2006 and the following season made his debut for Serbia, for whom he'll be appearing in the World Cup this summer.
In other news, Chelsea are said to be close to signing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. According to Cadena SER the London club want to bring the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge on an end-of-season loan, and it's Benzema's French international teammate, Nicolas Anelka, who is wooing the Madrid man with tales of how good life is at Chelsea under manager Carlos Ancelotti.
Meanwhile Newcastle have agreed a deal to bring Danny Simpson to the club from Manchester United after the 23-year-old defender impressed the Magpies during a loan spell. Though a deal appeared to have fallen through when Simpson returned to Old Trafford earlier in the month, Sky reports that the two clubs have sorted out their differences and the player "is set to pen a permanent deal" with the Tyneside club, reported to be for two and a half years. ·
