Luiz Suarez puts Man Utd, Chelsea & Barca on alert
Transfer Talk: Ajax striker has scored 16 goals this season & Rafa could move for Pavlyuchenko
The Daily Mail claims that Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been put on alert about Ajax's Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez. The exciting 22-year-old already has 16 goals to his name this season, including four in one Europa League game, and has racked up more than 50 goals in the two seasons he has been at the Dutch club. United's former Number 2, Steve McLaren, now boss with FC Twente, says: "He's tough, he's a threat and if anybody asks me in England, he's one of a few who could make the jump. I recommend somebody gets him in January - keep him away from our league!" Catalan giants Barcelona are also interested in the young attacker...
Roman Pavlyuchenko, the Russian striker who has found himself relegated to the bench at White Hart Lane under Harry Redknapp, is continuing to press for a move away from Spurs in the January transfer window - and the Daily Mirror claims that he could go to Liverpool. Kop boss Rafa Benitez is desperately seeking top-notch back-up for his injury-prone star Fernando Torres, and has alighted upon the Tottenham man, hoping to take him initially on a loan deal. The move would give Pavlyuchenko the opportunity to impress his international manager Guus Hiddink ahead of next summer's World Cup, should the Russians make it through their play-off. The forward said: "Yes [I'm looking to leave], because it's impossible for me to stay in the present situation. I've been sitting on the bench for half a year now and because of that I've lost my place on the national team"...
Another January target for Benitez is Real Madrid's Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart, who has confirmed that he will be looking to leave the Bernabeu during the transfer window. The summer arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema et al pushed the former Ajax player down the pecking order there, and he is keen to re-establish himself in a major league. "In principle I find it too early to return to Ajax," he told De Telegraf. "My dream is to play in a major championship namely England, Italy or Germany. Other proposals do not interest me." The Liverpool boss would need to offload some players to free up wages for van der Vaart, who would come in on a loan deal for the rest of the season - defender Andrea Dossena is likely to move back to Italy to join up with Napoli...
Sol Campbell, the former England defender who shocked many in football by joining League Two side Notts County at the beginning of the season (only to leave after having only played one game), could be on his way to Championship leaders Newcastle. Toon boss Chris Hughton said yesterday that "it's a deal that I wouldn't rule out. He's a player who will go somewhere at some stage, and he will get a lot of offers. But we won't rule him out of coming here. He has still got a lot to offer the game. He's already been at Notts County, but he only played one game so he hasn't played a lot of football." Campbell could add backbone to Newcastle's bid to return to the Premier league at the first time of asking... ·
