Chelsea bulldozer Spurs to keep Carlo Ancelotti’s perfect record intact
Goals from Ashley Cole, Michael Ballack and Didier Drogba see off Harry Redknapp’s Spurs in a one-sided London derby
Chelsea 3 Tottenham 0. Chelsea maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Spurs at Stamford Bridge.
The result means Carlo Ancelotti's side have recorded a club record of 11 straight wins and are now the only team in the country with a perfect record. Their latest success came courtesy of goals from Ashley Cole, Michael Ballack and the devastating Didier Drogba.
For Spurs their second successive defeat against top four opposition in as many weeks suggests that the heady optimism that accompanied their impressive start to the season may have to give way to realism, and they have now slipped to sixth in the table.
Although the London derby had little of the drama of its counterpart in Manchester there was still an element of controversy after referee Howard Webb failed to award Spurs a penalty when Robbie Keane appeared to be brought down by Ricardo Carvalho.
The score was 1-0 to Chelsea at the time and Harry Redknapp clearly felt the outcome of the game would have been different had Spurs been handed a penalty. Chelsea scored their second soon afterwards and the game was as good as over.
Spurs' afternoon was not made any better by the loss of Ledley King, who injured his hamstring as he tried to turn and chase Drogba and Sebastien Bassong who was taken to hospital with a head injury after falling awkwardly.
Some of the sheen was taken off Chelsea's performance by an injury to Drogba in the closing stages. ·
