David Bentley and David James moves on ice
Transfer Talk - 3.30pm: David Bentley and David James may not be moving after all, but Pompey sign another defender
David Bentley's much anticipated deadline day move to Manchester City appears to be off after the Eastlands club said it was not looking to make any further signings this summer.
Bentley had been strongly linked with a move north after falling out of favour at Spurs, and it had been suggested that he could be involved in a swap deal that would have seen Spurs target Martin Petrov moving to White Hart Lane.
The future for Bentley is unclear. The midfielder could have expected a run in the team after Luca Modric broke his leg at the weekend - however, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp quickly moved to sign Porstmouth's Niko Kranjcar as cover and Jermaine Jenas now set to stay at Spurs, it seems Redknapp's long term plans do not include the former Arsenal midfielder.
Portsmouth continue to do business on deadline day and have agreed a £3m deal for Watford centre-back Mike Williamson, and he will to follow fellow defenders Tal Ben Haim and Nicky Shorey to Fratton park as Paul Hart seeks to bolster his back line.
The south coast team may also have managed to hold on to keeper David James, reportedly a target of Spurs. Pompey say they have recieved no offers for their England keeper.
Much travelled striker Marlon Harewood is at the centre of a battle between Hull City and Newcastle United. The Villa man has been unable to get a run in Martin O'Neill's team and spent much of last season on loan at Wolves. Now he is likely to leave Villa Park for good.
Hull manager Phil Brown has been hunting strikers all summer and after failing to land Fraizer Campbell, Bobby Zamora and Michael Owen he is now keen on Harewood. Newcastle see Harewood as a good addition to their squad as they hunt promotion back to the Premier League. ·
