Inter Milan’s Ricky Alvarez could be Emirates-bound
Transfer Talk: Argentine midfielder frustrated by lack of opportunities at San Siro
AS ARSENAL revel in their glorious 3-1 crushing of League Two titans Shrewsbury, there is further good news for Gunners fans in the form of a report carried by the Italian website tuttomercatoweb. It claims that Ricky Alvarez is so disillusioned with life at Inter Milan he's seeking a move to the Emirates in January.
The 23-year-old Argentine midfielder arrived at the San Siro in July from Velez Sarsfield in a £10m deal and life seemed swell when he won his first international cap a month later. But Alvarez has been unable to break into the Inter starting line-up and now agent Marcelo Simonian has said that if the situation doesn't change his client will look elsewhere.
Arsenal are known to have expressed an interest in Alvarez in the past and Simonian admitted that a move to the Premier League was a strong possibility.
Someone who might be making a move in the other direction is Tottenham frontman Rafael van der Vaart. Talksport claims that the 28-year-old Dutchman, who arrived at White Hart Lane last year from Real Madrid, is being courted by AC Milan. The Italian giants believe van der Vaart is being wasted at Tottenham and are keen to offer him a more central role.
Talksport claims Milan will pay Spurs £12m for van der Vaart in January, which would represent a nice little earner for the Lilywhites who forked out just £8m a year ago. Van der Vaart's people have yet to comment on the story but with the Holland international allegedly frustrated with manager Harry Redknapp's approach, it's believed he will be receptive to an offer from such a glamorous club as AC Milan.
Goal.com carries an exclusive interview with Cesena midfielder Marco Parolo in which the 26-year-old sings the praises of Chelsea. Parolo, capped this year by Italy, told Goal that he believes he has what it takes to thrive in either the Premier League or the German Bundesliga. "I am not your traditional Italian midfielder as I have a lot [more] different characteristics than others... The Premier League and the Bundesliga are leagues where they play a type of football that's very similar to my style."
Parolo was linked with several clubs over the summer, notably Inter Milan and Lazio, but it appears he wants to end up at the Bridge. "Chelsea are a very big club," he commented. " [But] let's not get carried away and take one step at a time."
Finally, Portuguese preener Cristiano Ronaldo is sending out mixed messages as to where his future may lie. Last week rumours emerged linking the 26-year-old with a possible move to Russian club Anzhi, but in an interview with Portuguese broadcaster RTP 1 Ronaldo said: "I'm close to signing a new deal to stay at Real for the rest of my life... Real is one of the best teams in the world." But in the same breath he also admitted: "I would not rule out any club."
A cynic might say Ronaldo is simply angling for the best deal possible with Real, but Transfer Talk couldn't possible comment... ·
