Real finally get their man as Alonso signs for £30m
Liverpool agree to sell midfielder and line up Alberto Aquilani to replace him. AC Milan set sights on Cesc Fabregas
Real Madrid have landed yet another big name signing after finally agreeing terms with Liverpool over the transfer of midfielder Xavi Alonso.
The fee for the 27-year-old Spanish international (above, centre) is reported to be in the region of £30m but Liverpool said the terms of the deal would remain confidential. Alonso will become the second Liverpool player to join the Spanish giants after full-back Alvaro Arbeloa (above, left) moved to the Bernabeu last week.
Alonso's arrival will push Madrid's spending beyond the £200m mark. Cristiano Ronaldo arrived from Manchester United for £80m, Brazilian playmaker Kaka arrived from AC Milan for £56m and they have also spent £30m on Lyon's French striker Karim Benzema.
The Independent reports that Liverpool will plug the gap in their midfield by signing Roma's £17m midfielder Alberto Aquilani in the next week.
