Manchester City are ready to make a third bid for Chelsea's defender and captain John Terry, according to the Times. The Londoners are on a pre-season tour of America at the moment, and will reject "out of hand" the expected £40m offered by the Mancunian moneybags. Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's owner, has flown to join his team in the States and is likely to press the club's senior executives not to accept any deal for the England international...

Alex Ferguson stoked the bitter fires of acrimony between Manchester United and their former striker Carlos Tevez when he said that the Argentinean was not worth the sum that Tevez's adviser Kia Joorabchian was demanding for him, reports the Guardian. "In my opinion, I don't think he was worth £25m. He was popular with the supporters. The fans quite rightly have their heroes and I was happy to go along with the deal as long as it was the right one but, quite simply, he is not worth £25m," Ferguson told reporters on Man Utd's tour of the Far East...

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh has given up on a long-cherished move to Arsenal, but has told French sports newspaper L'Equipe that he believes he will be playing in the Premier League next season for one of a number of clubs who are chasing him. "'With my agent, we have agreed terms with several English clubs that are keen to sign me," the 25-year-old said. "They are just waiting for my decision. They are notably Sunderland, Blackburn, Tottenham and Fulham. Arsenal? I don't really believe in it anymore. I want a new challenge, I have a weakness for the English league"...
