New president Florentino Perez tries to unsettle the Liverpool midfielder by singing his praises to the ‘Times’ newspaper

The fight over Xabi Alonso has been joined in earnest by Liverpool and Real Madrid, as the Spanish giants attempt to prise the midfielder from the Merseyside club. Real's new president Florentino Perez told the Times that "Xabi is a magnificent Spanish player, so of course we'd love to have him", but sources at Anfield signalled that they would demand a "mind-blowing" amount of money to let the unsettled 27-year-old leave. Juventus have also been on the trail of Alonso, who had a superb season for the Premier League runners-up...

Everton will not sell either Joleon Lescott or Tim Cahill, their manager David Moyes has warned other Premier League clubs, several newspapers are reporting today. Manchester City are circling around the England defender Lescott, apparently offering Micah Richards to the Goodison Park club in a cash-plus-player deal, while Cahill's excellent season has brought him onto the radar screens of several clubs, including Champions League qualified clubs in England and further afield...

Kaka is set to undergo a medical for Real Madrid today before completing a £56m move from Serie A club AC Milan according to the Daily Mail. The Brazilian playmaker, who scored a penalty for his home nation against Uruguay on Saturday night in a World Cup qualifier, will see a doctor from the Spanish club in Recife, Brazil. Hull City have had a bid of £6m accepted by Manchester United for their 21-year-old forward Frazier Campbell. Campbell had previously played at the KC Stadium in 2008, helping Phil Brown's side achieve an unlikely promotion.
