Perhaps mindful of rumours yesterday that David Beckham could return to the UK to play with Tottenham in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup, AC Milan has moved to confirm that the England legend will be remain San Siro player next year. Beckham worked out a unique 'timeshare' deal with AC and his US club Los Angeles Galaxy earlier this year which would see him spend the MLS season until November 2009 on the West Coast before returning to Serie A in the New Year.

AC Milan's general manager Adriano Galliani told his club's official website: "Our agreement with the Galaxy is very clear. We obtained what we desired, which was to keep David until the end of the season. Beckham has been a hugely important acquisition, crucial for us. We hope that Beckham will return to us in January but from here until the start of the winter transfer window he will definitely be in Los Angeles"...

With Aston Villa fretting over the long-term fitness of their Danish defensive stalwart Martin Laursen, boss Martin O'Neill has been scouting for a replacement and has apparently settled on Joleon Lescott of fellow Big Four also-rans Everton. Although the England international would conceivably be happy at Goodison Park after a season which now sees them scrapping with O'Neill's Villa for fifth place, Lescott is originally from Birmingham and could favour a move back to his hometown...

Heurelho Gomes' torrid time at Tottenham could be coming to an end after Lokomotiv Moscow's well-regarded goalkeepr Eldin Jakupovic claimed that he was being lined up for a move to White Hart Lane. The 24-year-old has attracted the attention of Harry Redknapp during a loan stay at Grasshoppers Zurich and would be available for £2.5m, a bargain compared to the £7.8m spent bringing Gomes from PSV...
