Transfer Talk: ‘Money is the root of all evil’ tweets Frimpong as Nasri heads north

Arsenal star Samir Nasri should be officially unveiled as a Manchester City player today. The Frenchman trained with the Gunners yesterday morning before heading north for his medical to complete a deal reported to be in the region of £23m which will see his weekly salary double to £175,000.

In a report on the official Arsenal website, Arsene Wenger praised the French midfielder's commitment during the past few weeks but could not resist questioning his motives, saying the 24-year-old had left for "psychological and financial reasons".

Nasri is the second French Gunner to head to the Eastlands this summer following Gael Clichy's departure in July. "It's part of the modern life of a professional football player," said Wenger. "It's not by coincidence that everybody suddenly lands at Man City."

However, one of Nasri's former teammates was more forthright in his assessment of why he had walked out of the club. "Money is the root of all evil," tweeted midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong. And when teammate Jack Wilshere took to twitter to wish Nasri "Good luck... World class player. Will be missed," Frimpong's reply seemed to suggest otherwise: "Pffffff come-on Jack."

So with Nasri and Cesc Fabregas now gone, Arsenal's hunt for replacements continues and it seems one potential quarry has eluded their grasp. Lille playmaker Eden Hazard has been pursued by the Gunners for more than a year, but according to latest reports from France both player and club refuse to countenance a move to the Emirates.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the general manager of the reigning French champions, Frederic Paquet, had this unequivocal message for Arsene Wenger: "Eden will not be leaving this season. We are aware of interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe but we are not prepared to sell."

Unless Paquet is trying to drive up Hazard's £26m valuation still further it looks like a deal won't be done, particularly as the 20-year-old Hazard has this to say to Talksport on the matter. "Since the beginning, I have said that I will remain [at Lille]."

Elsewhere Chelsea are having no problem attracting some of Europe's finest to Stamford Bridge. With Valencia winger Juan Mata expected to confirm his arrival in west London any day soon, the Blues have also signed Mexican hotshot Ulises Davila. The teenager has recently been creating waves in the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Colombia, and according to De Telegraaf Davila will put pen to paper this week in a deal worth £1.75m having opted for the Premier League side ahead of Dutch outfits Ajax and PSV.

Finally Nacional defender Sebastien Coates is keeping his options open as far as Liverpool are concerned. The 20-year-old Uruguayan has apparently attracted interest from Reds boss Kenny Dalglish, and according to Portuguese rag Ovacion a deal might be in the pipeline.

"What I need is continuity so I don't lose my spot in the national team," Coates is quoted as saying. Asked about the Liverpool rumours, the central defender replied: "The Premier League is a possibility... the market is open until August 31 and I won't stop waiting." ·
