Fabregas leaves as Arsenal line up Martin and Ayew

Transfer Talk: Arsene Wenger spots replacements for Fabregas and Nasri in the French league

With Arsenal and Barcelona all but agreed on the transfer of Cesc Fabregas, the Metro reports that the Gunners are close to deciding who they'll bring in to replace the Spaniard. Top of Arsene Wenger's wish list are Marvin Martin and Andre Ayew.

Midfielder Martin currently plays for unglamorous Sochaux in the French first division and according to reports emanating from France, the 23-year-old Martin believes a move to the Gunners would do wonders for his international prospects. The Metro reports that  Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of Martin but if Arsenal offer a sizable chunk of the reported £35m they'll receive from the sale of Fabregas, then they should get their prize.

As for the 21-year-old Ayew, the Metro says Arsenal view him as a suitable replacement for Samir Nasri, should he up sticks to Manchester City in the next fortnight. The Ghana winger is with Marseille at the moment but apparently has an £11.5 release clause in his contract, a figure that won't worry Arsenal if City cough up the expected £23m for Nasri. Ayew was one of the stars of Ghana's run to the 2010 World Cup quarter-final and is happy as a winger and in a striking role.

The Mail meanwhile claims that Arsenal are going to renew their interest in Everton centre-half Phil Jagielka this week despite the fact that  Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen were rocks in Arsenal's defence at Newcastle on Sunday. The Mail says that Wenger will meet Everton's asking price of £20m for Jagielka (who turns 29 this week) and quotes a source close to the player as saying he's "ambitious for Champions League football."

In other news the Mirror reckons that Spurs are negotiating with Manchester City over the loan of Emmanuel Adebayor. Apparently the former Arsenal frontman, who had a spell at Real Madrid last season, expects a weekly pay cheque of £160,000-a-week, which is £100,000 more than Spurs pay structure allows. Therefore the Lilywhites have told City that if they do want to loan out Adebayor they will have to make up the six-figure shortfall. The Mirror says City boss Roberto Mancini has vowed never to select Adebayor again but at the same times is reluctant to pay him to go elsewhere.

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has hinted that the club still hasn't given up hope of signing Spurs midfielder Luka Modric even though their first two offers were rejected by Tottenham. Admitting their failure to land the Croatian playmaker, Buck told the Chelsea official website: "We did make an offer but Daniel Levy [Spurs chairman] has rejected that offer and I don't know if it will go any further, we will have to see... It is whether the player is available, what the price is and every other dynamic that goes with it."

Finally, the Express says that Manchester United haven't finished their summer spending spree and the latest target on their radar is Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Goetze. Having given up the ghost on Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder, United are apparently now eyeing up 19-year-old Goetze with scouts present to see the German star shine in Germany's recent defeat of Brazil. But the Express claims that United will face stiff competition from both Real Madrid and Barcelona in their bid to sign the teenager talent. ·
