Transfer Talk: Emmanuel Adebayor wants to stay at Real Madrid but with no deal agreed, Spurs step in

Emmanuel Adebayor is poised to return to north London - though it will be to Spurs and not Arsenal this time. The 27-year-old quit the Emirates for Eastlands in 2009 but life at Manchester City didn't turn out to be the bed of roses that Adebayor had hoped for and he was farmed out on loan to Real Madrid last season.

Apparently Adebayor is keen to remain in the Spanish capital but a deal couldn't be reached between City and Real, which has left the door open for Spurs to make a move.

Speaking in South Africa, where the Lilywhites are on a pre-season jolly, manager Harry Redknapp admitted the club had a soft spot for Adebayor. "I would like to bring him to the club," said Redknapp, though he added negotiations were at an early stage. "The chairman, Daniel Levy, has been speaking about it [but] I am not sure if it will happen. He is a name that has certainly been mentioned."

Meanwhile the Metro says that plans are already in place at the Lane to sign Mirko Vucinic if Spurs fail in their bid to land Adebayor.

The paper claims that the club have been monitoring the Roma striker for a while after he came to their attention playing for Montenegro in the Euro 2012 qualifiers. Though he's known for having a bit of an attitude, Vucinic is a proven goal-scorer and his £15m price tag is within Tottenham's budget.

Budgets are apparently what Arsenal and Samir Nasri are still trying to agree on and the Daily Mail says that the Gunners are prepared to break the bank to cling on to the 24-year-old midfielder.

The Mail reckons that Arsenal have told the Frenchman they will give him £6m a year if he extends his contract beyond next year. The deal would shatter Arsenal's pay structure but they believe it is a principle worth sacrificing in order to hang on to Nasri in the face of alleged interest from Manchester City and United.

Perhaps Arsenal's offer to Nasri explains why the Gunners look set to miss out on Everton defender Phil Jagielka. According to the Times, Everton have demanded £20m for the 28-year-old England international but that's not what Arsenal believe he's worth and negotiations appear to have reached an impasse.

Elsewhere, Spanish rag AS reports that Real Madrid have won the race to sign Brazilian striker Neymar despite Chelsea having looked odds-on favourites earlier in the year to capture the 19-year-old's signature.

Apparently Real and Santos have agreed in principle on a deal and AS quotes an unnamed Real player as saying: "He will be one of those players who could make a difference. You cannot let him get away."

And Chelsea are also believed to be competing with Everton for Marseille midfielder Lucho Gonzalez. The 30-year-old Argentine has been mooted as a possible target for Malaga, now that the Spanish club have been bankrolled by the Qatar royal family, but Talksport claims that Chelsea see Gonzalez as a suitable replacement for the injured Michael Essien, out until 2012 with a knee injury.

"I think the player will play in England or Italy," said the player's agent, Federico Simonian, adding: "It is not true that Malaga have made a bid." ·
