Arsenal fans poke fun at Man United after Van Persie injury

Dutch striker injured on international duty. 'Let's hope it's nothing minor,' say Gunners

ROBIN VAN PERSIE has become the most talked about player in the Premier League since his controversial move from Arsenal to Manchester United this summer, and news of a thigh injury picked up on international duty with Holland last night has generated almost as much interest as England's lacklustre performance against Ukraine.

With Wayne Rooney already out of action it is now being reported that Alex Ferguson may also be without his other main striker against Wigan on Saturday.

Van Persie, who has scored four goals in three games since moving to Old Trafford, was withdrawn at half time as the Netherlands beat Hungary last night sparking a welter of speculation. It was claimed that he could be out for a month, but after the game Dutch boss Louis Van Gaal said Van Persie had been taken off as a precaution and said: "It does not seem to be too serious, but we did not want to take any risks."

The reaction to what appears to be a relatively minor injury shows what a divisive figure Van Persie has become. "As some Manchester United fans sunk into despair, Arsenal supporters danced around their handbags," wrote Sport Witness.

That certainly seemed to be the case on Twitter, where Arsenal fans were quick to lay into their former striker. Blogger Ben Smith summed up the mood among many in the Arsenal faithful when he wrote: "Interesting news about Van Persie's injury. Hope it's nothing minor." Even the football blogs picked up on the theme, with a picture of a grinning Arsene Wenger appearing on some websites.

United, though, can ill-afford to lose Van Persie, who has a reputation for being injury-prone, as fellow striker Wayne Rooney is out until later this month. Alex Ferguson is also without defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Midfielder Ashley Young could be fit for the weekend, although there are also injury fears over another summer signing, Shinji Kagawa, who missed the game against Iraq with a back problem. ·

Bullshit! I am an Arsenal fan and I wish that for no player.

good lad.

Hopefully Van Persie gets the green light for the weekend....and suffers a complete breakdown. Utd need to know what its like to pay and wait for a halfplayer

I don't want him to be injured though I don't want him to b successful at united cause that would mean I don't want arsenal to win the league if he scores every game.

'Sport Witness' or 'Big Mouth'? No Arsenal fan prays for RVP's lethal legs to be injured. Just praying to see how he faces SANTI.
