Explosion in Cyprus football match sends players flying - video

Fan hurls explosive at injured player during match between Cyprus's Anorthosis and AC Omonia Nicosia

FOLLOWING shocking scenes in British football this weekend - a man was jailed today for assaulting Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland during a match against Leeds United and death chants and racism marred the Sunderland Newcastle derby - a video has emerged of a football match in Cyprus on Sunday, when a flare was hurled at an injured football player and the medics attending him.

The video shows medical staff looking after an injured Anorthosis Famagusta FC player during the second half of a first division match between second-placed Anorthosis and sixth-placed AC Omonia Nicosia.

A green glow appears to the right of the medics and seconds later an explosion sends players and officials sprawling, some rolling on the floor clutching their faces or ears.

The explosive object, thought to be a flare, was thrown from the section of the stadium containing the travelling Omonia Nicosia fans but so far there have been no reports of any arrests.

The incident halted play for around 10 minutes as those hurt were treated. Fortunately no-one was seriously injured.

Hasn't Cyprus got enough problems without this behaviour?

Notice how much more injured the footballers were compared to the stewards who were stood next to them!
