Arsenal stars red-faced after stripping in end of play mix-up - video

They think it's all over! Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin throw shirts into crowd before extra time

ARSENAL players Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin were left red-faced at last night's match against Reading as they threw their shirts into the crowd before the start of extra-time.

The French duo thought Theo Walcott's 95th-minute equaliser at the Madejski Stadium was the end of the game and started stripping off. They threw their shirts into the crowd, blissfully unaware that there were still 30 minutes left to play.

Giroud and Coquelin appeared to think the match would go to a replay with the score drawn at 4-4 in the second half of the Capital One Cup fourth-round clash. Despite fans yelling, "It's not over mate!" and gesturing to the footballers to keep their shirts on, they only realised their mistake once they had thrown away their jerseys.

The pair then had to perform a U-turn on their goodwill gesture and attempt to retrieve their shirts from the fans.

Luckily they managed to recover the jerseys to complete the match fully-clothed. Marouane Chamakh and Theo Walcott took Arsenal to an incredible 7-5 victory.
