Hargreaves could move to Arsenal, Juve want Walcott
Transfer Talk: The permanently crocked Man U player could move to London, but what about Kaka?
Has Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger finally seen the error of his ways? A day after Transfer Talk reported that the Gunners were on the trail of 30-year-old West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, it now seems that the nutty professor is poised to sign another ageing maestro – none other than Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
Having invested in youth over the last few years, only to see his proteges fall to pieces when the going got tough, Wenger has decided he needs a few wise heads at the Emirates next season. And they don't come much wiser than Hargreaves, an articulate player both on and off the pitch.
True, Hargreaves spends most of this time injured (since arriving at United from Bayern Munich in 2007 he's played just 27 games) but perhaps Wenger believes the 30-year-old will be able to impart pearls of wisdom from the treatment table.
According to the Daily Express, United are still undecided whether they'll offer Hargreaves a new contract when his current one expires at the end of this season but the interest from Arsenal might persuade the player to walk out of Old Trafford on a free, or at the very least, hobble out.
Meanwhile, Metro reckons that Juventus are after Arsenal winger Theo Walcott. The paper says that the Italian club have drawn up a wish list of players to try and recruit during the summer and the 22-year-old Gunner is one of them. It doesn't mention a transfer fee but does say that Arsene Wenger would be extremely reluctant to see Walcott depart.
Is Kaka on his way to Stamford Bridge? Well, it depends who you believe. You might remember last week we brought you news that the Brazilian playmaker's mum had hinted via Twitter that her boy might be in London next season; well, thanks once more to the power of the social network site, it appears Kaka might be in the process of negotiating a deal with Chelsea.
It was England cricketer Kevin Pietersen who fuelled the latest speculation, tweeting to his 263,539 devotees that he'd seen the Brazilian eating out in west London. "Hope I'm not being a snitch.. BUT, I had dinner a couple tables away from KAKA last night.. Are we gonna see the great man CFC?? Hmmm," tweeted the South African-born England batsman. And no, Kevin, you're not being a snitch but merely performing a valuable public service.
Of course Kaka, currently on the books of Real Madrid, could simply have been in west London to see for himself the statue of Michael Jackson recently erected outside Fulham FC, but with recent rumours suggesting he is keen to leave the Bernabeu perhaps not.
On the other hand, his presence in London can also be explained by the fact that he was at an Adidas event in the capital on Tuesday. And there would appear to be little room for misinterpretation of his announcement: "I want to stay in Madrid and play for Real - that's the truth."
Talksport claims that FA Cup winners Manchester City are preparing to slug it out with Inter Milan for the right to sign Udinese star Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean winger, who made a big impression at last year's World Cup, has been in fine form this season in Serie A and the Citizens have coveted the 22-year-old for months. Talksport says that City boss Roberto Mancini is willing to pay £30m for Sanchez but that Inter are cautiously optimistic that they will win the hand of the South American.
Staying with City, naughty boy Mario Balotelli has said he'll be back at Eastlands next season to prove that Mancini was right to pay Inter £24m for him last summer. It's been a rollercoaster ride for the 21-year-old striker since he arrived in the Premier League, the youngster picking up nearly as many red cards as he has scored goals, and in the latest furore he was caught swearing on camera at the end of Saturday's FA Cup Final. But the player's agent, Mino Raiola, has rubbished suggestions Balotelli might be on his way out of the club: "Mario will remain at Manchester City and his future will be in England," he said, adding: "He has a very long contract with the club and is happy. He is playing and wants to achieve even more success. He cannot ask for anymore." ·
