Price going up for Arsenal target Papiss Demba Cisse
Transfer Talk: Hoffenheim intend to milk in-form striker for all he’s worth
With just seven goals in their last seven games, Arsenal clearly need to find a finisher for next season - but it seems they’ll have to fork out at least £13m if they’re to get their hands on Papiss Demba Cisse. The Sengalese striker has been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent days but his current employers, Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, have allegedly told the Gunners he won’t come cheap.
The German rag DZ claims that the 25-year-old hitman, scorer of 20 goals in 28 games this season, is one of the hottest properties in German football and Hoffenheim intend to milk him for all he’s worth. They won’t even begin to entertain offers below £13m and are hoping that Arsenal’s interest, along with that of Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow, will drive up Cisse’s price still further.
Talksport reports that Manchester United are close to wrapping up the signature of Brazilian teenager Adryan. The 16-year-old midfielder caught Alex Ferguson’s eye some time ago and now the Red Devils are in talks with Flamengo with a view to bringing Adryan to Old Trafford.
The youngster made something of a stir during the South America Under-17 Championships, attracting interest from United as well as Juventus and Inter Milan. Talksport says that United want to sign Adryan now even though he won’t be able to come to England until next summer when he turns 18.
Meanwhile United are also said to be monitoring Sporting Lisbon keeper Rui Patricio although their preferred target remains David De Gea of Atletico Madrid. But just in case that deal goes pear-shaped, United are drawing up Plan B, which involves snaring the 23-year-old Patricio.
The Portuguese press claim that United had their scouts in attendance during Sporting Lisbon’s match with Porto at the weekend, and a deal could be forthcoming if De Gea remains in Spain. Sources in Spain suggest, however, that the Atletico shot-stopper is keen on a move to England and it all depends on whether United are prepared to meet the alleged asking price of £18m.
Still with goalkeepers, could Lyon be about to offload Hugo Lloris? It had seemed last week that the 24-year-old French international would remain in France until after Euro 2012 but that was before Lloris had a hissy fit at his teammates following Lyon’s defeat to Paris Saint Germain.
Speaking to the French press on Monday, Lyon director Bernard Lacombe said: "Sometimes one has to sell certain players and there are people who will definitely be leaving the club.” He added: “We will try to do everything to keep Lisandro [Lopez], but it could be complicated for Lloris.”
United have been linked with Lloris in the past but with De Gea and Patricio now the object of their desire, it might leave the door open for Arsenal to make a move.
Finally, former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves is being tipped to head to the States to join either the Vancouver Whitecaps or Toronto, the two Canadian clubs in the American MLS.
The 30-year-old Manchester United star was born in Calgary and apparently Hargreaves accepts that his days at Old Trafford are up after three nightmare years of injury. According to Tribal Football, Hargreaves will head across the pond in the summer. ·
