Man City could choose Cavani to replace Balotelli
Transfer Talk: Arsenal and Newcastle already eyeing up Napoli striker as Man City step into frame
Arsenal and Newcastle look set to come to blows over Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, though the Metro newspaper reports that Manchester City are also eyeing up the 24-year-old and might move in as the Gunners go at it hammer and tongs with the Magpies.
Cavani has been in captivating form this season for Napoli, scoring 29 goals in 40 games, including a pair in the 2-1 defeat of Cagliari at the weekend. With such prolific form it’s no wonder the Italian hotshot is valued at £30m and that Wenger sees his powerful physique as an answer to the Gunners' current woes.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are searching for a suitable replacement for Andy Carroll, who left for Liverpool in January, while it's rumoured that Roberto Mancini might want to offload nuisance striker Mario Balotelli in the summer, in which case an opening would appear for Cavani at Eastlands.
Following yesterday's Transfer Talk about Arsenal finally being prepared to sell Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona this summer, Talksport report that Arsenal might take possession of the Spanish club’s prized midfielder Thiago Alcantara in return.
The 19-year-old is treasured in Spain, having played for his country at Under-19 and Under-21 level, and though he's been linked to a host of European clubs Talksport claim Arsenal are at the front of the queue. Apparently Barca boss Pep Guardiola would like to retain the services of the teenager but would be prepared to sacrifice him if it might securing Fabregas.
Argentinean rag OLE says that Juventus are getting ideas above their station and this summer will launch an daring bid for Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Javier Mascherano.
The trio of Argentines – currently with Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona – have been targeted by the Turin club as they seek to re-establish themselves among Europe’s elite.
OLE says that while Mascherano might be tempted to move to Juventus (after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot with Barcelona), it's unlikely that either Tevez or Aguero would be released from their respective contracts.
Several Germany papers suggest that Bayern Munich are lining up an offer for Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov after the Bulgarian ace failed to agree a contract extension with the Old Trafford club.
Berbatov, 30, has scored 20 goals this season for United but is often used as a super sub, a role with which he is said to be unhappy. Apparently Bayern would offer United only £10m for Berbatov, which is £20m less than the Red Devils paid Tottenham when they signed the player in 2008.
Italian newspaper Libero says that Manchester City may turn to Fiorentina left-winger Juan Manuel Vargas in the summer after the disappointment of their 2010-11 campaign.
Currently fourth in the Premier League and all but out of the title race, the Sky Blues will battle it out with Barcelona for the right to Vargas’s signature.
The 27-year-old – who captains his country Peru – has been impressive in Serie A this season and according to Libero he has already held preliminary talks with City about a possible move. Fiorentina are said to want £17.4m for the player, which is the sort of money City's Sheik Mansour could lose down the back of the sofa and not even notice. ·

Cavani is Uruguayan football-wise, though probably holds both Italian and Uruguayan citizenships.
