Transfer Talk: Wolfsburg want Brazilian so they can sell Kjaer to Chelsea

It looks like Arsene Wenger might be forced to venture into the transfer market in a fortnight's time to fill the gaps caused by the imminent departure of several members of the current squad. With Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner set to leave, fresh reports suggest he isn't the only player allegedly dissatisfied with Wenger’s coaching methods.

According to Talksport, Denilson (above, right) is being targeted by Wolfsburg with manager Steve McClaren confident he will snap up the defensive midfielder in next month’s transfer window. The 22-year-old Denilson in many ways encapsulates the current Arsenal squad – all style but not much substance – and the North Bank faithful won’t be too sorry to see him go, particularly as it’s rumoured Wolfsburg would pay Arsenal £11m for the Brazilian who joined the Gunners in 2006.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail says that Italian outfit Roma are tailing Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue and an offer said to be in the region of £5m is in the pipeline. Unlike most of the current Arsenal squad, Eboue, 27, knows what it is to savour the sweet taste of success having joined the club in 2004, an era when the Gunners had a backbone. In recent years, however, Eboue has been usurped at right-back by Bacary Sagna and Roma will lure the Ivory Coast player to Italy’s Serie A with the promise of regular game-time.

German football magazine 4-4-2 says Chelsea have found the answer to their dramatic loss of form and it comes in the smouldering shape of Wolfsburg centre back Simon Kjaer. Apparently Kjaer will be offloaded to the Blues next month so Wolfsburg can take Denilson from Arsenal.

Kjaer, a sinewy 6ft 3in Dane with chiselled good looks, made his national bow last year and participated in the World Cup where he received rave reviews. With Chelsea yet to fill the hole left by Ricardo Carvalho’s move to Real Madrid, not to mention the absence through injury of Alex, boss Carlo Ancelotti knows he needs to bolster the back four if Chelsea are to resist the challenge of Manchester United for their Premier League crown. 4-4-2 says Chelsea will offer £7m for Kjaer and are hopeful of sealing the deal.

In other news, Manchester City are set in their determination to buy Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta, the man who scored the winning goal for Spain against Holland in July’s World Cup final. Spanish rag Marca says the Sky Blues will make an irresistible offer to Barcelona of €100 million (£85m) and the paper quotes a Manchester City source as saying: "Iniesta has had a great year and has come through the Barcelona youth system, but this does not mean that the Catalan club do not consider a good offer.”

Finally, Liverpool are said to be eyeing up Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin, the 22-year-old who is one of the stand-out players so far this season in the Bundesliga. With Dortmund currently top of the table, Sahin has come to the attention of several clubs, including Juventus and Inter Milan, and now Goal.com says Liverpool have joined the race for the Turkish international. Sahin has played more than 20 times for his country, having made his debut as a 17-year-old in 2005. ·
