Alan Pardew ‘set to be latest Newcastle boss’
Former Charlton and West Ham manager will take over at Newcastle within 24 hours, claims BBC
Alan Pardew is set to be Newcastle's new manager and will be confirmed within the next 24 hours, according to BBC Sport. The journeyman manager has been among the front-runners to take over from Chris Hughton, who was sacked on Monday, although Martin Jol of Ajax was widely considered to be the favourite.
Hughton, despite helping Newcastle to promotion last season and leading the club to 12th in the Premier League, was sacked because the club’s notoriously prickly owner Mike Ashley said he wanted someone "with more experience".
If it’s true, Pardew, 49, would be a surprise choice. He has an undistinguished managerial record, having been sacked from two of his last three jobs - the most recent of which was at he League One side Southampton.
He has, however, managed West Ham and Charlton in the Premier League in the past, and it is believed that he knows Newcastle owner Ashley personally. He and Ashley and director Derek Llambias are said to have been regulars at a London casino owned by Llambias.
The BBC reports that Pardew was in talks with Newcastle about taking over from the luckless Hughton as long as 10 weeks ago. ·

What an absolute joke of an appointment if it goes ahead - some1 with Experience they said?? If Pardew gets the job it will just show that Ashley & Co didnt learn thier lessons about lies when the Keegan case ended so badly for them. Pardew has a total of 2 years experience managment in the top flight, 1.5 seasons with West Ham from 05/06 to Dec 06/07 which ended with his sacking after a horrific run and then he presided over Charltons relegation in the same season!
Also he's so gaf prone West ham had to appoint a media advisor for him!!
I can guarantee Pardew wont be taken to and if this is the case St James park will not be a happy place to be for any1 which will be to the detriment of team performances.
I really will cry if this happens.
