Back from surgery, Redknapp claims Spurs can win title

Tottenham boss claims Man City will soon slip up and Spurs can win first title for 51 years

SPURS boss Harry Redknapp believes his side can win the Premier League after seeing them cruise past Aston Villa and move into third place in the table. "It is a possibility, it is not impossible," he said after seeing Emmanuel Adebayor score both goals in an impressive 2-0 victory.

Tottenham are still nine points behind the runaway leaders Manchester City, although they do have a game in hand on the teams around them, and Redknapp has not given up hope of catching the pace-setters and claiming a first title in 51 years for the Lilywhites.

"We are on a real good run and, if we continue the form that we are in now, we will win the league," he announced. "Although that will be very difficult."

He said he was convinced Manchester City would slip up at some stage. "They will not go through the season unbeaten. I don't think they are that good. "

Redknapp's bullish statements came after his first appearance in the dugout following minor heart surgery three weeks ago. Doctors had advised him against such a quick return, but Redknapp said: "I enjoy watching us play football - that's the best medicine for me."

The pundits seem to share his enthusiasm. "Tottenham had players exhilarated by the realisation that their careers are climbing steeply," wrote Kevin Mccarra in The Guardian. "The zest pours out of a team egged on by its sense of promise as well as by commanding victories such as this."

It was a "performance brimming with speed and elan", according to Henry Winter in The Daily Telegraph. "Tottenham are on the march, at a quickening pace," he added. ·
